A Heartfelt Farewell to Dr. Shelly Sandel

A Heartfelt Farewell to Dr. Shelly Sandel
October 22, 2026

Dear Clients and Friends,

It is with both gratitude and heartfelt emotion that we announce that Dr. Shelly Sandel will be retiring at the end of this year.

As the founding veterinarian of Northfield Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Sandel has been far more than a doctor. She has been the heart and soul of our hospital. Her compassion, leadership, and commitment to her patients and clients helped create the culture that makes Northfield such a special place today.

Our success is built on Shelly’s vision. The relationships she created, the standards she established, and her belief in treating every patient and client with compassion and respect continue to shape who we are.

While her retirement marks the end of an incredible chapter, it does not mark the end of her influence on Northfield. As we look toward the future, our team is committed to protecting what Shelly created and continuing to build upon the foundation she established. We will strive to make decisions, care for our patients, and support our clients in a way that honors Shelly’s vision and that we know she would be proud of.

There truly is no replacing Dr. Sandel, but there is tremendous pride and responsibility in carrying forward what she built.

A Message from Dr. Sandel:
It is with a heavy heart that I announce that after over 30 years as a veterinarian, and 11 years at Northfield Veterinary Hospital, I will be retiring at the end of the year.

Saying goodbye is bittersweet! It has been an absolute privilege to care for your beloved pets, walk alongside you through joyful milestones and difficult moments, and be welcomed into your lives. Thank you for the trust, kindness, and friendship you have shown me over the years. You have no idea how much I will miss all of the slobbery doggy kisses and kitty head butts that I love so much. Many of you have been with me since the very beginning, and I am so grateful for your continued support.

I am leaving your companions in wonderful hands. Doctors Rooker, Sansgiry, and Cadwell, along with our amazing, dedicated support team here at Northfield Veterinary Hospital, will continue to provide the same compassionate, high-quality care you and your animals deserve.

As for what’s next for me? Spending time with my family and a lot of volunteer work. I’ve participated in spay/neuter clinics on Indian Reservations and would love to get involved with opportunities like that again. I love to travel and hope to combine that with international veterinary volunteer work as well.

Closer to home, I plan to go back to school and take some classes again for fun. I used to speak a bit of Russian and would love to brush up on those skills and maybe learn about Roman history so that I can have deep conversations with my son.

Hopefully I’ll continue to see many of you around the community, as I will dearly miss our interactions and friendships. Give all of your furry kiddos a big kiss for me.

With deepest gratitude and love,
Dr. Shelly
